amazing teacher…

“Sowmya is an amazing teacher, being left handed I have struggled to pick up crocheting even after reading numerous books, watching tutorials and asking friends to show me.
Sowmya was showing me how its done by crocheting with her left hand which helped immensely, the build up of skills required to crochet was easy to follow and most importantly memorable (here’s your pond, catch a fish) which then enabled me to crochet my dream item a granny square! Which is now slowly becoming a full blown blanket. Thank you Sowmya!”

"Zoe came home today with 5 beautiful pieces of work that she is extremely proud of! She was very excited to tell me about the enormous selection of wool that Sowmya had, with so many different colours to choose from. One particular little bracelet that Zoe made, is woven with 4 different colours and has a diagonal stripe pattern to it (I think it might be what is known as Braiding). It's something that we have tried together at home, but without success. Sowmya showed Zoe how it's done "properly" (Zoe's words!) and she is very happy about that. "I first learnt to crochet growing up, & made many granny squares. A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted to crochet as a hobby, & found a class online, & then continued doing granny squares at home, but then I had several months break, & then decided I needed a refresher class & to learn a bit more too. Last month I did a crochet class with Sowmya, & it was brilliant from start to end. Sowmya is such a friendly & welcoming young lady. I told her the background of my crocheting, she then put a plan in place to suit exactly what I wanted to learn & re-cap on. Sowmya works alongside you, so you can see what she is doing, & she can see what mistakes (if any) to correct you, as you go along. We did a granny square, just to go over some questions I had, then we did a new pattern, called Sunburst, when she showed me a sample one, it looked amazing, & I couldn't wait to start. Sowmya worked alongside me, step by step, & she is very professional, as she also wrote the pattern & drew diagrams, as we worked together. I learnt new stitches, & Sowmya explained every instruction that she wrote, & made it very clear for me to understand. When I completed the Sunburst Square, I felt extremely happy, with what I made - all thanks to Sowmya's skills/patience/knowledge & so much enthusiasm - what a Wonderful teacher she is. Also, I must not forget, the lovely refreshments that she provided, the afternoon could not have been a better one. The patterns & instructions that Sowmya wrote, were so nicely presented in a home-made booklet, with such quality card & creative handwriting. The afternoon was very fullfilling & I thoroughly enjoyed It. "My friend and I attended the class together - both beginners and each with our own 'challenges' in getting going! Sowmya's teaching was well prepared, clear, friendly and above all was given gently and with outstanding patience! "As an absolute beginner with no experience of crochet I cannot recommend this Sowmya highly enough. She took time to explain everything in great detail; from where I was going wrong to showing me different ways of holding the yarn around my fingers. Her instructions are clear and easy to understand and she makes you feel at total ease. She prepared a little book for me with a basic flower pattern and provided my first hook and a had lovey choice of yarns to choose from. We had a break half way through with some lovely refreshments and nibbles which was very much appreciated.I left there after 3 hours having made a long chain, a flower bookmark and a further small flower using two colours. With the confidence to practice on my own and then to come back for a further lesson to learn new things including granny squares and hopefully to go on and make a little mouse toy one day. "Two Little Mice. It's a beautiful story and very cute soft toys - perfect for a personal gift. I bought this gift for my 3 sons who are very active and don't like to sit still for long. I was surprised that all the 3 were so interested in the story (they are 4, 3 and 21 months) that they didn't move. We said the mice had little ears and therefore we needed to speak quietly around them - which they respect, so anytime it's too loud I bring the mice out."

I was pleasantly surprised when my pink obsessed three year old picked this hand made story book over her favorite Pinkalicious. She loves enacting the scenes from this cute story, as I read it to her. Often, the story quickly grows on it's own leading to open ended toddler play time and peaceful laundry time for the mother. The crochet work is beautiful and clearly made with a lot of love. It is even a hit with my 8 month old. He loves playing and chewing on the box and wishes he could get his hands on a mouse while the sister is not looking. Story in a box is a great idea and product. I am happy I got it."
