    Wonderful- clear lesson, patient, friendly teacher. I made some great progress and took away a lovely item, and the skills to make more, as well as beautifully clear, written instructions. My seven year old daughter did finger knitting whilst I did crochet. Sowmya kept her attention and she is so excited by the project, she had continued it every day since the course. We’d love to go back and learn the next steps;

I highly recommend this course. As a beginner, I really benefited from the face to face tuition and learned so much more than online videos that i had tried. Sowmya is a friendly, patient and effective teacher. I learned a lot, produced a couple of my first ever crochet items and it was a lovely touch having my own course materials to take away so I can practice based on the great foundation that this course has provided.

  3. Georgie

I really enjoyed this class. Sowmya was very patient and encouraging. Initial frustration soon subsided and I was surprised but very pleased to have produced a granny square by the end of the session and feel confident to practise from here. I would definitely recommend Sowmya’s class – it would have taken me ages to get this far just with a book or even an online tutorial.

  4. Maddi

What a great afternoon! Sowmya’s techinques and method of teaching was incredibly easy to follow. She was very patient and helped me to rediscover the art of crotchet. The examples she gave were very clear, and she encouraged me to continue patterns without relying on the instructions. I now feel confident to continue practising this art and would highly recommend Sowmya’s class to anyone!

  5. Laurel English

Sowmya was an excellent teacher – she was very patient, welcoming and explained things extremely well. Her written instructions, which I could take home, were also very clear and I feel confident that I can practice and improve my skills on my own. I felt like I achieved an learnt a lot in just one lesson with Sowmya. I would absolutely recommend her class to anyone interested in learning how to crochet!

  6. Julie Kendrick

I really enjoyed my lesson with Sowmya, the afternoon flew by and I have no hesitation in recommending her. to others. As other reviewers have noted she is a very patient and natural teacher. Her lesson was very structured, we had clear goals and she provided written instructions for both the stitches and the projects for me to take home.

Thank you for a great class on Sunday. The time flew. I have made 2 flowers since Sunday and although a little more frilly they look like flowers. I’ve forwarded the video to Clair. I know she enjoyed the day too and will be glad of the video.

  8. Gabriela Samano

The lesson was great!! I never thought that I was ever going to be able to learn to do crochet stitch, Somwya was the best teacher, patient and understanding…. I will recommend the activity for anybody that wants to learn a new skill or hobby… Excellent!!!

Sowmya is highly skilled at her craft and is also a professional teacher who understands different learning styles and capacity to concentrate. I found her to be a very genuine and caring person who can pace the teaching to the learner. The course content and materials are also excellent. All in all a great experience.

Sowmya’s patience, kindness and consideration shine through every stitch she makes! Not only did I learn a huge amount, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and feel confident that I might be able to produce something on my own. Sowmya expertly tailored the lesson to suit our specific needs and spoiled us with delicious refreshments as she did this. Altogether a really lovely morning.

Sowmya is a delight. A natural teacher who welcomes you into her home with genuine warmth. The lesson was perfect, Sownya adjusted her teaching to two of us at slightly different levels. We both left feeling we had learned so much. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in learning or improving at crochet

  12. Millie Freeman

I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant environment to learn crochet. Sowmya is just lovely and very talented. I learnt many stitches and techniques and the two classes were adapted to my skill and personal projects. All this was done whilst drinking green tea and enjoying some yummy snacks. I’m grateful that Sowmya has taught me a craft that I hope to pass on to my children and grandchildren. thank you, Millie (the left handed one!)

  13. Hannah

What a wonderful afternoon, spent nourishing the mind and advancing my skills in the thoroughly enjoyable craft of crochet. Where to begin on how wonderful my session was? I am a self-taught crocheter, and Sowmya went to exceptional lengths to ensure the content of the lesson was suitable for my needs. Her home is wonderful, and very relaxing. She was an excellent host & ensured my comfort was a priority at all times. She was patient, observed my technique and assisted me where I needed guidance. Truly knowledgeable in the field of yarns, needles & stitches, I’m proud to say I left feeling very accomplished and ready for my next project. I will definitely be bringing my daughter to learn finger knitting, and I can’t wait!

  14. Jess

I had a lovely afternoon learning to crochet with Sowmya today. She is a wonderful teacher, patient, friendly and great at explaining and explaining again! It was relaxing and very rewarding to leave with two small items to take home, along with her written notes – I hope to return soon to learn more!

  15. Marie

I have been wanting for so long to learn how to make granny squares. I have tried online tutorials for instruction, but found them difficult to follow. I booked a day with Sowmya. She tailored the class to my needs and with her patience and knowledge I was able to understand the basic principals of granny square making within a couple of hours. She also provided clear written instruction for reference. I will be booking another class in order to learn more patterns. I had a very nice day.

  16. Charlene Jenner

I really enjoyed myself, sowmya is very kind and patient, I have tried to learn to crochet before and given up every time, after this crochet session I fully understand the basics and am brave enough to tackle different patterns just a few days later! I never thought I would grasp the art of crocheting but thanks to sowmya im now finding it enjoyable and quite addictive! Thank you

  17. Sinead Collins

I was looking for a one-day crochet course and found Sowmya! She is an excellent, patient teacher and had me crocheting flowers within an hour! It was a fantastic few hours and I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn. She even managed to switch hands and teach me the stiches left-handed! You can really see Sowmya’s passion for her art and she definitely knows how to share her enthusiasm! I have gone away feeling more confident to tackle projects on my own now! Thank you Sowmya!

  18. Robbie Swales

I went for my first lesson with Sowmya last Friday afternoon. What a fabulous experience! I had a small bit of crochet experience and Sowmya took me from where I was, and added to my skills. She was very patient and adapted her input in relation to my skill and experience. Sowmya had painstakingly created a little book for my first Granny square. In her own hand and with pattern illustrations: Beautiful. I left the session with lots of new techniques and buzzing with ideas as to where to go next with my crochet adventure. A cot blanket for my fourth Grandchild! I will be going back for another session when I have collated all the crochet questions I want to ask her. Robbie Swales. 67 years old. I have been knitting since the age of 7. (My Mum taught me) Crochet is my new adventure.

  19. Vanessa Cabo

What an excellent find!! Sowmya was everything I was looking for. Kind, patient, professional and incredibly knowledgeable. I took my own books and she taught me to read the patterns, observed my technique and assisted when needed. I left knowing almost every stich and so happy with my flower and star!! I’m sure i’ll be going back for more!!

I first learnt to crochet growing up, & made many granny squares. A couple of years ago, I decided I wanted to crochet as a hobby, & found a class online, & then continued doing granny squares at home, but then I had several months break, & then decided I needed a refresher class & to learn a bit more too. Last month I did a crochet class with Sowmya, & it was brilliant from start to end. Sowmya is such a friendly & welcoming young lady. I told her the background of my crocheting, she then put a plan in place to suit exactly what I wanted to learn & re-cap on. Sowmya works alongside you, so you can see what she is doing, & she can see what mistakes (if any) to correct you, as you go along. We did a granny square, just to go over some questions I had, then we did a new pattern, called Sunburst, when she showed me a sample one, it looked amazing, & I couldn’t wait to start. Sowmya worked alongside me, step by step, & she is very professional, as she also wrote the pattern & drew diagrams, as we worked together. I learnt new stitches, & Sowmya explained every instruction that she wrote, & made it very clear for me to understand. When I completed the Sunburst Square, I felt extremely happy, with what I made – all thanks to Sowmya’s skills/patience/knowledge & so much enthusiasm – what a Wonderful teacher she is. Also, I must not forget, the lovely refreshments that she provided, the afternoon could not have been a better one. The patterns & instructions that Sowmya wrote, were so nicely presented in a home-made booklet, with such quality card & creative handwriting. The afternoon was very fullfilling & I thoroughly enjoyed It. I would definitely recommend Sowmya to anyone interested in learning crochet, her approach is very professional & makes you feel at home as you arrive. Thank you ever so much Sowmya.

  21. Dolores Alexis

1 hour yesterday afternoon and I had learnt the best technique for holding the yarn and hook, and completed my first granny square. Before the afternoon had ended I could read a pattern, joint pieces together and had mastered some basic stitches as well as a few new ones (puff and cluster). What is so great about this course is that Sowmya adapts the course to suit you. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone with a little more experience Sowmya works with you and at your pace. Her passion, enthusiasm, skill and above all patience shines through. She even took the time to handwrite me a little instruction booklet. An absolutely wonderful afternoon.

  22. Juliana Sara

Thanks to Sowmya, now my dream to do crochet seems possible.
She is a very patient lady and very passionate about what she does. Now I can do some patterns on my own. Thanks for the lovely afternoon and the techniques.

  23. Liza

This course was so much more than I expected! Sowmya is such an excellent and lovely teacher, plus she was such a sweetheart with my baby. She is so patient and detailed with her instructions and made very clear all of my doubts. She offered me lovely refreshments and a beautiful variety of yarns to choose from. I learned how to make stars, flowers and a beanie for my baby. I learned various stitches, their differences and terminologies and uses. This was definitely worth it and I will be having a further course soon.

  24. Hilary

My friend and I attended the class together – both beginners and each with our own ‘challenges’ in getting going! Sowmya’s teaching was well prepared, clear, friendly and above all was given gently and with outstanding patience! We left the class absolutely delighted with having created our first crocheted items and full of enthusiasm to practice and come back for more! The peaceful setting for the class, Sowmya’s overall kindness and hospitality made this a wonderfully relaxed way of learning something new – I am now entering my late 60’s and have some arthritis in my fingers, but this presented no barrier to Sowmya, who taught with great skill and knowledge and understanding of each of our particular needs. We are two people who on Friday could not crochet at all – and now we can!

  25. Chrystal Isherwood

As an absolute beginner with no experience of crochet I cannot recommend this Sowmya highly enough. She took time to explain everything in great detail; from where I was going wrong to showing me different ways of holding the yarn around my fingers. Her instructions are clear and easy to understand and she makes you feel at total ease. She prepared a little book for me with a basic flower pattern and provided my first hook and a had lovey choice of yarns to choose from. We had a break half way through with some lovely refreshments and nibbles which was very much appreciated.I left there after 3 hours having made a long chain, a flower bookmark and a further small flower using two colours. With the confidence to practice on my own and then to come back for a further lesson to learn new things including granny squares and hopefully to go on and make a little mouse toy one day. I really do look forward to booking my next lesson.

  26. Felicity

“Having never crocheted in my life I was full of enthusiasm to learn and was fortunate enough to be sent in the direction of Sowmya. The class was well prepared and thought out, with concern given all things from proper posture and use of crochet needle to choice of yarn and regional conversions when following patterns.
Sowmya’s patience, kindness and hospitality is second to none and time flew by. I felt most accomplished at the end, leaving with a number of completed beginners projects.
I thought Sowmya was particularly good at being able to translate what I was watching her do with her hands to help me with mine. She diligently watched me work to help me learn the process of each stitch, so I would be able to repeat it when practising by myself.
The next day I was in my local yarn shop full of inspiration and joy! I can’t wait to return for the intermediate class!!!”

  27. Maxine Hayward

I had an amazing afternoon with Sowmya yesterday. She is a fantastic teacher and a wonderful host. I have struggled to crochet for years, I had tried friends teaching me and video tutorials and books but just could not grasp it…I am was amazed to be able to make a flower and crochet a granny square within the space of 3 hours. Sowmya has a marvellous and holistic style of teaching and she tailored the whole afternoon around my needs and pace. I cannot recommend a class with her strongly enough. I am working on my newly learned skills and plan to book another class at a later date to improve my skills once I have fully mastered the basics.

  28. Marisa Soares

“My mum tried to teach me how to crochet but for some reason I just couldn’t do it, it felt like I had two left (clumsy) hands. I tried Youtube tutorials but it sounded like a code language to me. I’m happy I didn’t give up, though. After four hours of learning and practice, I left Sowmya’s place with a lovely granny square made with my clumsy hands! With her talent and patience, she helped me decifering this (apparently) complicated language and opened the doors to the wonderful world of crochet. First thing I did when I got home: start another granny square and now I can’t put my hook down. Sowmya was adorable, very kind and welcoming, offering us delicious refreshments and putting us at ease.
I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to start from scratch or just needs a few tips and tricks for a new project.”

  29. littlehivecrafts

This course was exactly what I had been looking for. Having tried to learn crochet from online tutorials, I couldn’t get to grips with it. However, after just four hours with Sowmya, I mastered the basics and was pleased to have made a full granny square. I now can’t put my crochet hook down and have made another square even though it’s not even midday the next day! Sowmya was welcoming, hospitable, and an excellent teacher. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn this craft.

  30. Camellia

Really enjoyed my lesson. Left feeling confident just need to practice the skills I learnt. Looking forward to going back to learn more techniques.

  31. Aayushi

“What a wonderful 4 hours we had with Sowmya! She is an excellent teacher, very patient and encouraging. I didn’t think I’d be able to pick up crocheting again so quickly and she made it so easy.
Thank you for the individual books and patterns- the attention to detail was great! I definitely feel more confident about making my headband. Might have to come to the intermediate course!”

  32. Lin

I really enjoyed the lesson with Sowmya. I’m an absolute beginner with zero experience with crochet or knitting before. But I’m amazed how much I learned in one afternoon session. It really helped me to get started. Sowmya is excellent!

  33. Robbie

I have attended two sessions with Sowmya. An individual class and a group class. Both were very enjoyable, I learned a lot and they gave me added inspiration to continue with my crochet. My individual class enabled me to ask specific questions about types of crochet stiches and patterns, which Sowmya patiently demonstrated and explained. At the group class Sowmya showed us how to make a star and a snowflake. Both of which we can hang from the Christmas Tree! Fantastic. Well done Sowmya and many thanks. What a great teacher. Robbie

  34. Lisa Le Roux

    Great friendly teacher.
Breaks down the basics really well.
    Very patient.
Very knowledgeable. Emailed me follow on suggestions immediately. :)))

  35. Tracy Hull

What a fantastic craft session. Sowmya was kind, gentle, encouraging, welcoming and really knows her stuff. I would recommend this place for learning new crafts. We took away some lovely things we made and Sowmya made sure we knew how to make them when we got home. Brilliant cosy craft haven …thank you

  36. Julia

It was around 3 years since I last practiced but my friend dragged me into this classes. I went with low expectations but the outcome was fantastic.
It was a nice evening in a lovely atmosphere, we had such a good time!
Sowmya is a great teacher and with a lot of patience, I really can’t wait to repeat the experience.

  37. Ylenia Enriquez

I can’t recommend this course enough! My friend Yulia and I had a really lovely time yesterday learning how to make a Granny Square. Sowmya is an excellent teacher and a lovely host. She is super patient and her instructions were very clear and easy to follow. She also prepared us a cute little booklet with instructions so we can keep on practicing at home. I’m sure we will come back to her in the future.
    Thank you Sowmya!!!

  38. Lucy Karwatowska

I attended a crochet course with Sowmya on my birthday and it was hands down the best birthday I’ve ever had! I’d never crocheted before (but had some knitting experience) and I absolutely loved it (and enjoyed it much more than knitting)! Sowmya is a lovely person who is both knowledgable and patient. She welcomed us with such warmth and kindness and I left having learnt a lot. I would recommend this course for anyone who wants to learn the beautiful art of crocheting.

  39. Harriet Tate

This was a great beginners lesson! Sowmya was extremely thorough and patient. She made sure that everyone in the class felt comfortable and were happy working to their own pace. I will definitely be going back for another session to learn the next steps.

  40. Shan

My daughter and I spent a wonderful morning with Sowmya…the time flew past under her gentle teaching and guidance. She the gift of being able to explain things clearly and simply and also in a way that helps you remember what to do when you leave the class. A very talented teacher and a warm and lovely person…thoroughly recommended!!

  41. Anna Alassandro

I spent the Saturday morning with Sowmya doing a crochet course and really enjoyed it. We were given some notes & materials and she also explained how to read a crochet pattern. Relaxed atmosphere, Sowmya is kind and patient and it was so easy to follow her instructions.

  42. Anna Lowczeska

What can I say other than Sowmya is the best possible teacher ever. She has the knowledge, the patience, the positive and cheerful attitude to make crotchet fun. As a keen knitter, I marvel at crotchet patterns and I have always wanted to learn. She made the class productive and fun. The fact that she keeps numbers to a minimum is a great testimony to her commitment to give attendees the closest attention and make sure that they actually go home and continue to practice, which is just what I did after her class! I couldn’t wait to pick up the hook again and I have already bought my next stash of yarn to start my first (simple) project. Book one of her session, you’ll thank her and you will thank me for it. I take no responsibility if your yarn’s spending increases though….

  43. Rebecca E Brown

Thanks so much for a brilliant first crochet lesson Sowmya! I learnt so much, and Sowmya was such a patient and encouraging teacher who helped me believe I could do it – and I did!!! I would recommend the classes to anyone!!! Brilliant!! Thank you!!

  44. Diane Doyle

Fantastic, simple easy to follow instructions that have left me confident and eager to practice on my own which i have done successfully.

  45. Suzi Butcher

Yesterday I spent a delightful afternoon with Sowmya learning to crochet. People have tried to teach me before and I have attempted YouTube videos – but I have never really been able to figure out which bit of the stitch is what! I now feel much more confident. Sowmya tells little stories that help you remember what you should be looking out for as you are doing your stitches.
I am looking forward to practicing on my own for a while, but I suspect I will need another visit to Sowmya some time in the future to learn even more.
    Thank you Sowmya.

  46. Audrey Meehan

Sowmya is a fantastic teacher!!! I learnt so much in such a short time. I am a complete beginner. She has given me the confidence in my own abilities and now I shall practise and develop. Thank you Sowmya….you are fantastic x

  47. Ruchi

Sowmya is the best teacher i’ve had in all my life. she is kind and incredibly patient. she customises her teaching style to fit the need of the student. her encouragement made me feel like i was a natural at crochet – in just a month i feel like i have been doing it forever and yet cant get enough of it. there are plenty of online crochet videos including Sowmya’s, but this in person class is much better for any beginner young or old. i’m already attempting projects for my family and trying out new kinds of yarn and hook sizes. Eager to do an advanced class with Sowmya
